I am so excited and in complete formation with denim this fall and winter. There’s something about the cooler months that allow you to turn a basic denim piece; whether it be a button down shirt or great fitting jean into something Fabulously Chic. With denim having so many beautiful shades of indigo it can effortlessly hold its own with many textures; such as leather, sequins, suede or fur. Denim can be dressed up or down with tweed menswear inspired blazers, skirts, button down shirts and/or just a simple tee.
Ladies, most importantly when it comes to denim jeans it is FIT, FIT and yes once again FIT! You can purchase skinny jeans, flare jeans, boot-cut jeans, boyfriend jeans, mid-rise, low-rise, or even high-rise; it doesn’t matter the type, if you do not purchase the correct fit instead of complementing your figure it will truly do the opposite. TRUST Me I know, I have had my run in with a few off fitting jeans. I learned quickly that denim jeans too can be tailored! With me being short and with curves, I normally need a hem on my pant legs and the waist taken in. Normally the only time I can pass on alterations is when I am purchasing an ankle fit or skinny jean fit. You may already practice this, but I feel a need to share two little tid-bits I utilize in order to achieve the perfect fitting denim jean/pant.
1st Locate a GOOD seamstress or cleaners that do alterations. I don’t care how much or how little you spend on your denim jeans, you should invest in needed alterations. Especially, if you do not have the perfect fit that you feel complements your body. (depending on where you purchase your denim jeans, the retailer may do in-house alterations)
2nd When you are being fitted try on a pair or two of your shoes to assist with the alterations to your hem. With my height, I like to have jeans specifically for my flats/sneakers and other jeans strictly for my high heels. Nothing is worse than a flooding pant at the ankle (especially when it wasn’t intended to be an ankle pant) or wearing a pant that is too long for your flats/sneakers. This can create a slouchy and frumpy look, and we surely don’t need that. So please ladies, bring a pair or two of your shoes to your alterations fitting.
